Death.

by Poet on the Piano   May 19, 2023

The first thing that happens is you
romanticize it, or maybe that part
comes later.

You let the strings build up,
an orchestra budding in your chest,
as your heart swells to the
sounds of sweetness, desire,
yearning... such a gentle life.

The music moves your mind.
You think about the beauty in
wordless moments, something
the world experiences so little of.

And when you finally crawl out of
bed, opening all the windows to feel
the quintessential spring breeze

you feel calm.

But is this the good kind of calm?
The one that can be trusted?
Or is it the delusional one -
a secret you tuck away for now
with a smirk of a smile following?

You wonder if you're falling in
love with the idea of death,
or if it's always had you in its pursuit.
