The Paradox of Freedom

by ddavidd   Jul 25, 2025

You are either imprisoned
by what holds you captive,
or
you are out,
in the prison
of things
that do not.

You are imprisoned
by your own consciousness.
For if there is a wall,
whether you are part of the collective
or apart from it,
you are imprisoned
either by your isolation
from the shared mind,
or by the ache
of witnessing your brethren,
your other limbs,
in chains.

So prison and freedom
are only relative.

The only certainty is this:
true freedom
contains an equal measure
of this and that,
of shadow and light,
of self and other.

Only in balance
can flight begin.
And without flight,
existence is
simply
impossible,
just
impossible.
