The Last Draught

by ddavidd   Sep 21, 2025

Would you be sated with a single sip
when your thirst is vaster than oceans?

—Yes,
if that sip were the one a lover names,
the draught the sea envied
when you drew from the well. *

Taste it, and you shall thirst no more,
for you will walk beyond the gates of thirst.

Then the true Ocean unveils:
where measure has no measure,
where the boundless dissolves all bounds,
where infinity drinks itself,
and thirst is quenched
by its own vanishing.

==

* : A. Shamloo:
"The sea envies the sip you drank from the well."
