Winter knocking at my back door

by patrick   Mar 7, 2026

Six thousand feet above sea level
Low on oxygen!
I find my feet ponding ‘my dawn patrol’.
As winter bites the end of my nose

Sunrise is the coldest part of the day,
Far away from the sea,
With its oxygen loaded air
The highveld has its own invigorating inspiration.

A winters day with clear blue skies
This be the pearl of the planet,
Dawn brings a ‘still and quite’ to the land.
No wild weather, just a bone chilling embrace.

The veldt is all brown and frankly ugly!
The birds are on their winter break, in Rusia.
Nature and its rules, that evolution has created.
Enables all things to survive, as they should.
