The Paper Boat

by Gracy Judith   Jun 21, 2026

In a stream after rain,
a paper boat
drifted past.

Its folds were soft.
Its edges bent.
The voyage
had not been kind.

Still,
it floated.

Past puddles
that looked like oceans.
Past leaves
that became islands.
Past reflections
of clouds
it could never reach.

I watched it disappear
around a bend,
carried by water
toward some unknown place.

And for a moment,
watching it drift away,
I forgot
it was made of paper.
It seemed,
instead,
to be made
of possibility.
