I’m jealous of the steering wheel you wrap your fingers around-
Of the pillow you lay your head on at night because you once laid it on me,
The smell of your cologne faded so now I smell deodorants in the Walmart aisle just to hug you.
I can’t find comfort in anything-
Blankets hold memories of us intertwined on the couch,
Soft brown curls matching plaid patterns that scratched my brain in just the right way,
The sheets debated your absence like it was a choice I had.
You decided for all of us.
And I can’t wrap my brain around it-
You came as fast as the sun rises and left as slow as it sets,
I should’ve seen it coming but the pattern was so established I thought you’d come back.
You almost took the light with you.
Now I’m jealous of the steering wheel you wrap your fingers around-
It used to be my hand but you left and now I summon unpleasant feelings because loving you hurts more.
I hope the hoodie you’re wearing goes to hell.
