Nothing left to memorize

by Beautiful Tragedy   Sep 28, 2026

The coffee pot hissed sometime after sunrise-
You’d never learned how I took mine because we thought there would be more mornings.
And I’d made a joke about you being just fine in my bedsheets;
That the coffee was kicking in but-
nothing caffeinated me better than your laugh.
It echoes off of the living room walls in the quiet.
And I knew your favorite Red Bull-
Which football team you hated and the baseball game your sister dragged you to;
You didn’t know your life would drastically change a day after.
Mine changed with it.
Now I’m a mosaic of memories and brown curls-
Glimpses of the life we almost had before your friend hit the pavement,
Coffee orders that could’ve been memorized melted away with the sunrise and now the coffee pot doesn’t hiss in the morning anymore.
The sun still rises-
But there’s nothing left to memorize.
