I searched for you on the satellite map-
Your location wasn’t on but I did it anyways.
I traced the route from my house to yours-
My fingers pausing at the places I remember you saying you were in the ETA updates,
The map hurt me more than you did.
The pavement along it did too.
And the air is cold again like the night we walked to your car-
I’d almost asked you what you were going to tell your friends about us,
You said it would be nice to get more time with me before you dropped me off;
Your hands were so warm that I still wonder how I ended up in a cemetery.
Are you here too?
I counted the minutes to your return but they were endless-
Infinite ticks of the clock as I pulled at the loose thread on my sweater,
You were never good at keeping track of time so I studied it for you.
I searched for you on the satellite map-
I’d memorized every turn that it took you to get here,
I thought I had the route down to the minute.
I was too late when I realized you got stuck.
