Standing at a Crossroads

by Aline   Sep 8, 2004

We seem to be
standing at a crossroads
I'm at my corner
you're at your corner
and she's at her corner
there is no visibly obvious way
for us to meet in the middle
it seems as if
the middle of the road
has been torched by hurtful words
that were slung from one corner
to another
and back again
I didn't mean for it to sting
when I said I felt
restrained by her
it was an accident
but I needed to express
how I was feeling
before I exploded
and committed an act
I would live to regret
for the rest of my life
how did this happen?
weren't we all close at some point?
did I drive us apart?
did you?
did she?
or was it life itself
that put us on
opposite sides of the road
looking across at each other
trying to figure out
how to meet each other
if this is what
standing at a crossroads
feels like
than I want no part of it
