The Candle That Burns

by SWAPNIL SAWANT   Nov 25, 2004

Holding each other’s hand,
Sharing each other’s sorrow,
Shouldering tears,
Driving away fears,
Enjoying victories,
Digesting defeats,
The journey has been long,
Yet so pleasant,
I have memories of lifetime!
But now our paths separate.
Yes, this is the unfortunate fate.
The very thought makes me irate,

“God, these people are like candles,
Whenever the day is as dark as night,
They have always shone light.”

Silly me, I held onto the candle real tight,
But it is snatched away from me,
I think, this moral everybody learns,
the candle that gave me light
has left me with the burns.
