SINGLE LEAF

by Saige   Nov 26, 2004

I began the holiday in a somber mood
It was the first to be without you here
A morning walk along the graveled road
To the tree we planted when first we arrived
On a branch high above remained a solo leaf
Fighting nature’s elements refusing to let go
Gazing upon that leaf reminded me of you
A times alone fighting to keep the family whole
I thought of our walks and many talks
The times we would ride to find our dreams
I realized how much I shall miss you
It has not been that long since you left
There is no bitterness just sadness
We had so many things still left to do
I said a little prayer knowing you would hear
Telling you I feel so safe and warm
Assuring you I am surrounded by so much love
As if on cue that lonely leaf released its solid grip
Ever so gentle floating down, landing at my feet
I shall preserve this leaf for eternity
And like your loving soul residing in my heart
It will travel with me everywhere I go
