When Love Is True

by AllHailTheHeartbreaker   Dec 2, 2004

Daddy always warned me
That boys were nothing but trouble
But every time he'd pull me away
My curiosity would double.

When I was twelve
I took my first chance
And tried my luck
In the field of romance.

I was disappionted
When I wound up with a broken heart
I didn't understand why his love dwindled
When I'd done my part.

I continued to like boys
One by one
But every time I'd let down my walls
They would be gone.

I turned against boys
Because of the pain they caused
And for awhile
My infatuations paused.

Then there he was
Standing in front of me
Asking me to be his girlfriend
I could hardly believe.

His features were half-shadowed
In the old barn's flood light
When I shyly accepted
On that warm September night.

Now I realize
That love isn't always bad
That sometimes it can be good
Even through all of the bad luck I've had.

You'll know by the look in his eyes
When he says I love you
It'll hit you like a brick
When love is true.
