With my ship

With my ship

A sinking feeling in my heart says we haven’t got long left,
As the darkness sweeps over the seas of tears we’ve wept,
For the loved and lost, and the men of the very best,
They kept to their orders and god bless that their souls rest.

We sail away,
To start again.

A distant light…upon the skyline,
And before… we can reach shore,
A hundred lives… must be cost in the night,
A simple war… nothing more.

For only thirty seconds we plan our precise attack,
And sailing onward to the ships there’s no turning back,
A loaded cartridge in a gun and then there’s a crack,
As the cannonballs sail across a sky of black.

A single hit,
Brought down the ship.

A distant light…upon the skyline,
And before… we can reach shore,
A hundred lives… must be cost in the night,
A simple war… nothing more.

I will not put… my hands up,
I can’t lay… and leave my place,
So I stand stood… on my ship, as I should,
I feel that I should stay… I will not sway.

Our white flag,
At my feet,
A tattered rag,
To admit defeat,
I shall not raise,
A coward’s plea,
A call of grace,
From on my knees.

I’ll go down… with my ship - I shall drown,
If that be… my destiny,
I’ll be renowned… for standing my ground,
Lost at sea… a death worthy.
