Them, or You

by Johnny Marlin 2   Dec 11, 2004

What will it be?
Them, or you?
The choice we'll see
What will you do?

I help where I can
More often then not
But now a days
My will has begun to rot

I take you into my home
From life on the street
My only condition
Hold a job... A simple feat...

After three weeks and a day
You could no longer hold on
You walked out on your boss
And the rent money is gone

You promised you'd try
To find a new job
But day in and day out
"Still no money", sorry Rob

I've helped you for too long
You still owe me two grand
But sorry, I have to say,
"I'm no longer gonna hold your hand"

Soon you'll be twenty-one
You need a reality check
I've helped you too long
Now go, hit the deck

I regard you as a brother
You are my best friend
You broke too many promises
Now this shit must end

You cost me my life
My rent was too late
Now I have grown cold
Awakened by hate

So what will it be?
Them, or you?
The choice we'll see
What will YOU do?

Little known fact, my real name is Rob. Hence, the name in the 5th stanza. Although I think he died. A long time ago.

That is an unusual poem. I enjoyed it because is very well written and speaks the truth. Sometimes the best help you can give someone is a harsh dose of reality.
