Railroad Bridge

by lisa marie   Dec 12, 2004

There is something different tonight
Standing on these tracks in the chilled night air
Looking down the long narrow rail bridge
The moon is hiding under a thick gray cloud
Followed by a gust of wind, so strong and violent
But it does not stop the peacefulness we are whittnessing
It feels as if the world is moving around us tonight
On this old rickety rail road bridge

My cheeks are red from the apathetic gust of winds
And my hands, my hands are insensible from the bitter cold
But it doesn’t stop me from enjoying this admirable place
The city lights are glaring back, everything is so gorgeous
And I know something is different tonight,
On this old rickety railroad bridge

For some reason this night, and only this night
Means something, something I don’t know
Because this place somehow swallowed up all my problems
I stare into the misty sky and feel everything
My perception on the world is changing tonight
On this old rickety railroad bridge

Something is going to arise, something positive
I can feel it in the peacefulness, in the gorgeousness
I can feel it in the words you are saying
I can feel it in the sounds of this gusty wind
And there is something about tonight
On this old rickety railroad bridge

Something I can’t seem to put into words
Tonight is the turning point of something
Something that I’m so craving to know…
Looking over the side of the bridge
Trying to put the pieces together,
And staring across the land
You asked a question that baffled me
Smiling as you see the next train come
With your arms in the air standing in the middle of the track
You scream “this is what I’ve been waiting for!”

And you set yourself aside as we watch the train go by
Just a few steps away from the tracks you continue with…
“Are you feeling it?”
And I felt it deep in my thoughts, beneath my chest
Wedged in my stomach, and through my words
I felt it through the breeze that hit us from the passing train
There was something different, and I felt it tonight
On this old rickety railroad bridge.

* for those of you who don't understand this poem. It is basically about being at a hard time in your life. then you come to a special place with someone close and get the feeling that everything is going to get better, and you both can feel it.

Great imagery created, I felt like I was there. You took a bit of a while to get to the point, but I suppose the suspense wasnt half bad. (Spot the imaptient child you can't take on long car trips: "Are we there yet?") A thoughtful idea and some nice phrases, thought the explanation was uneccesary. Cheers.
