Poem to the Pure shining one

by Michael D Nalley   Dec 16, 2004

The course of the study of my life's mystery
Has lead me to the subject of genealogy
I discovered many relatives that made me swell with pride
But I also discovered a truth that I can no longer hide
I am most impressed with the one whose name means pure.
Thus the first truth about her was written I'm sure
On her birth certificate even before she was mature
And even to this day this truth truly does endure.
Because her full name means pure shining one,
Her purpose on earth was to be a radiant nun.
This is a point, I must make, which cannot be overdone,
Because those who know her, know she shines like the sun.
At the convent someone knew the score
And gave her the name that means counselor
I know she definitely lived up to the chore
Her advice was full of wisdom and so much more.

Now I feel like I have dipped my pen into the heart of the one, who is not confined by time.
The one I am always inspired by, and return to when I pour forth my soul in rhythm and rhyme.
You see, I think there is something about poetry that is strongly sublime.
I mean, when a poet searches his soul for the truth it makes him want to climb.
But let me dip my pen into my own heart to say what I want to say.
No one but my mother and you have touched my life in such a way
If one could receive as much of my affection
I could look at you and see their reflection.
You make me want to turn my life into a poem and polish it like chrome
And, to walk steadily in the truth with no reason to wander, or roam.
I hope then to take it to my mother (your sister) some day when I go home.
You know she is united with the sacred heart, just like 'Saint Jerome'
I have got to thank you my dear aunt Agnes, for asking for this poem on 'Christmas day'
Because, I know there are many others, who love you in a very special way,
But it is I, who feels exalted, for it is I who gets to say,
"I love you my dear aunt Agnes," On a very special day.
