Hidden Gems (Tanka)

by Sean Allen   Jan 3, 2005

Saguaro cacti
live in what seems like a land
barren of water.

Life still teems in a desert:
gems in its infertile ground.

no, its just a type of cactus, and well cacti is the plural of cactus. to teem is to be prolific or fertile, or to be full of things. I liked teems better than stem.

I can cal it whatever i wish. LoL. Okay... what does Saguaro cacti mean (Latin for cactus perhaps?)?
And what does "Teems" mean? Wouldn't "stem" be a better choice of words?
And if anyone is following along, "Conflict" is a is my response to Sean's previous tanka.

Oh right, nice job on this one. I like the different view.

By the way, this Tanka is a response to a Tanka written by Aken Sol called "Conflict." Check it out to realize the full philosophical thought, if you can call it that.
