Butterfly

by Morning   Jan 7, 2005

I wrote this poem for an organization called Save the Family, and they help mothers who have been in an abusive relationship. This Poem is kinda about me and kinda about my mom. And I hope you like it...
----------------------------------------

It is a fact that love can be blind
But you never thought that his love would be so unkind
your tears of hurt dripping down
You smother your cries not making a sound

You wonder how you got to this place
as you run your hand across the scar on your face
such a heaviness in your heart
the love is gone, the pain is sharp

You wrapped yourself up in a silk cocoon
To hide from the hurt, to sleep safely under the moon
You spun it in such a rush
To protect yourself from his frightful touch

your cocoon was like rose petals with flowers so soft
It kept you safe and you felt somewhat lost
Most emotions had gone or were dimmed
But depression was felt from deep within

Your stay though was long over due
It gave you the strength and wisdom to start anew
All you needed was a safe place to sleep
To recover from the pain so deep

Change came and you embraced it
The fire within was lit
The sun rays beat down and kissed your face
As you emerged from your silk cocoon case

The fragile girl was no longer
Your love of your family made you stronger
And today was the day
You turned into a butterfly and simply flew away...
