The Ring

by Danielle   Jan 11, 2005

We sat on that beach, silence our only keeper that night
His hair had long since turned gray
and his eyes still told of wisdom he yet to tell
Tenderly he twisted that ring -- round and round
The moon casting it's glow, reflecting in his tears. . .
"Love is powerful," He said "It enters through you soul and leaves through tears."
He slipped that ring from his finger, a band of white marked it's place -- 50 years of tales it told
Simple and round, never ending. . .a band of gold she placed there a lifetime ago
"Love is wonderful," He said "It captures your heart and runs through your blood."
He stared at that ring -- clasped between two fingers
Much older then before, a wisdom they told. . .a tale they wove
"Love is never ending," He said "It weaves your heart with another and makes you one."
He let that ring clatter to the rocks below
His eyes lifting to the night sky, his heart beating as he took that final step
"Love is powerful," He said "It kills you in it's sleep."

I sat there on that beach, silence my only keeper
Two stars shining from above. . .
one ring binding their hearts for ever more
