Birthday Wish

by Danielle   Jan 16, 2005

I blew out those candles, eyes closed, wishing for something other than a diamond ring or a smile from the boy next door

In one breathe I wished for just one more day with you
To laugh
To smile
To love. . .

Flames flickered until their glow dimmed and I prayed you'd be there when I opened my eyes

In a simple flutter of lashes, I swore I saw you
Your laughing eyes watching me
Your smile bright
Your golden hair casting a glow. . .

A tear falls and a flame burns
A silly birthday wish, I know but it's you I need

One more breathe. . .one more candle. . . one more birthday wish.
