Fairy Tale

Fairy tales die away
Memories fade
And all that's left is this emptiness of a time spent dreaming -- A hollowness that echoes forever

You painted the picture so well
Promises of forever colored the sky
Declarations of love filled the air
And kisses covered the night
A fairy tale, you said

You whispered you were my prince
The knight I seek-ed in the darkness of my dreams
Proud and wise,
Loving and understanding,
You were everything I dreamed of
Riding in, rescuing me from the bleakness of nothingness

We laughed,
We loved, until you made me cry
A single crack and we crumpled
The fairy tale washed away, it's colors gone
Your promises faded,
Your declarations of love, meaning nothing now
My knight no more

I've grown now
No longer a believer in the "happily ever after"
You took those colors,
You took the innocence of the words
And left me drowning in the "what could have been"

Fairy Tales die away. . .
You taught me that.
