I Have Won At This Game

by Sarah   Jan 20, 2005

*Rumors brake the toughest people, Believe in the truth and you will survive*

Hear I stand, like a statue of stone
I watch you walk by, as I stand all alone
I tell the story that time only knows
A story that brings tears to my soul

Year by year not an inch do I shake
Tall in my stature, fearless to break
I hold the strength that time gave
A strength that slowly digs my grave

All the emotions I feel
Make me senseless, but real
Shattered dreams time made dear
Are a remembrance of memories I fear

Now I know what no one can know
I felt, but won’t show
All the wear time has brought to my home
Storms and battles I fought on my own

But every bone that was broken
Every hope that was taken
Built me higher each day
I have won at this game...

I enjoyed this poem greatly. Nuanced enough for readers to insert their own personal experience, specific enough to say something poignant. And I love the final stanza... brings it all together extremely well.
