A Tribute to Achilles

by Sean Allen   Jan 20, 2005

The wood rattled
groaned and snapped
as the chariot raced across
the bloodied fields of Troy.
The fields that, only so
many fateful months before,
had yielded heaps of prosperity,
now yield nothing but death.
The severed gold head of Apollo,
with silent gems staring,
watched the furious ride
of a man gone wild.

With golden hair streaming,
Achilles turned to the sky
and screamed,
"I am Achilles the Victor,
God among men,
and I spit at thee
with my mortal breath!
Oh, mighty Gods,
'Thus Diest Thou'."

Well, I admittedly always loved Hector and Odysseus of the hideous crew assembled at Illium. But... I nonetheless enjoyed the poem. Enjoyable to see a bit of Greek classic figure in poetry around here.

YEAH! Achilles is cool. I like the poem btw and yeah, i guess it could be considered a "dark" poem.
