Awake

*** I wrote this poem ages ago but recently found it. it was written when on of my close friends was being bullied at school *** please comment ***

How can you sleep at night,
with this shadow of guilt hanging over your head like a dark heavy cloud.
How can you sleep at night,
when you have seen the acid tears streaming down his face.
How can you sleep at night,
when a once strong confident boy crumbles beneath you in pain.
How can you be proud of yourself when you wake in the morning.
You are the weaker one.

How can you sleep at night,
when a boy so frightened to go to school lies to his mother and says he is sick.
He isn't the one who is sick, you are.
How can you sleep at night,
when you have caused all this emotional turmoil.
How can you get pleasure from ruining someones life and self esteem.
He isn't the one who needs help. you are.

But he will pick himself up again,
no matter how hard you kick him down. It is you who will end up on the floor in pieces struggling to cope with all your insecurities.
I hope you lie in bed every night unable to sleep and dream due to the pain you have caused.
tossing, turning, squirming. Desperately trying to sleep.

The strong wall of armour you have build around you gives way in time and guilt sets in its place. It is now you who can't seem to go on. It is now you who can't seem to cope with life. It is now you is struggling to win your battle but yours is with guilt.

I hope you lie in bed at night crying yourself to sleep as this is your only way of coping. I hope your whole world is in turmoil and you are now the broken one,

with tears of guilt streaming down your face all the time you lie awake.
