For my Mother

I’ve written many a poem
About one thing or another,
About the love of my life, or killing myself,
But not one about my mother.

My mother is truly an amazing woman,
Like whom I aspire to be,
She carried not only my brother and sister,
But she also gave birth to me.

My feelings for you are hard to express,
You’re my mentor, my keeper, I look up to you,
And although I probably don’t say it enough,
I really, truly, love and need you.

It will be like this forever and ever,
Even if we sometimes fight,
Even if sometimes I don’t do my best,
I know that you are generally right.

When I walk with you in the middle of the street,
I am so proud to be with someone so great,
And hold your hand and talk to you
About my friends, my clothes, my grades, my dates.

You’re always the one I turn to,
In you I place so much trust,
I tell you basically everything,
And I love you just so much.

You mean so much to me,
I could never want another,
For I am simply your daughter,
And you are simply my mother.
