On the corner

by Janice Brown~©~   Feb 18, 2005

He left her and
She’s all alone
He left her standing there
All on her own

On the corner she stands
Out in the pouring rain
Trying to understand what she did
To deserve such pain

On the corner she stands
Battered and bruised
He left her in this state
So unsure and confused

She begins to walk
Feeling so tattered and torn
He made her feel so guilty
Made her wish she’d never been born.

He made her feel like this
But there’s something much worse
It feels as though
She’s been put under a terrible curse

He raped her often
And treated her like dirt
And now she’s pregnant
And with a baby boy or girl

She looks up
And sees a sky full of grey
It is reflecting her life
And she wishes it would go away

He left her in her mess
And doesn’t care that she cries
He wouldn’t care at all
If either of them dies

He cares only for one
And that is himself
The rest of his life is shoved in a box
And left on a shelf

He hurt her
And made her feel so sad
But the worse thing was
That this horrible man was...
her dad
