Why It Hurts

by The Flame Within   Mar 4, 2005

Let me tell you,
you think you know love,
but you dint know anything.

You can hide your scars.
But you can not hide your pain.
It shows through your eyes.
It is visible through the thickest fog

Love is a knife with the sharpest edge.
So let love murder me.
But no, it only stabs me in the back

Why must love do this.
Why is it that love is used to get what one wants.
Is that the definition of Love!

This is why it hurts.
Because we hurt Love.
We use it foolishly, we say it and do not mean it.
We do not realize its power.

Love is a gift, that should be opened and shared.
Instead we sell it for other gifts.

Though not all of us do this.
Many of us know the true meaning of love.

But others go to the extreme for what they assume love is.
They hurt themselves over an emotion that they believe is there.

That is not love.
Love does not give pain.
Love takes hits.
No matter what you throw at it, it shall prevail.

What you know is lust, a feeling of passion for one.
A passion strong enough to hurt one's self.

I have seen to many of my fellow friends with slashes on there wrist, scared in their voice, horror in their eyes, and pain in their hearts.

Over what they think is love.
Lust has many different ways of showing its self.

But it will always be the same shape as Love. So how do you tell the difference. By not looking for love.

But, by realizing that you already have it, all it has to do is take shape.

So why does love hurt.
Because it is not love, but lust

i know this may seem a bit gay and I'm sorry if you don't agree with this but that is how i truly feel.To many of my friends are hurting themselves over something that was never there.
Thank you for reading this

Wow. That's so true. I agree completely. There is a fine line between love and lust, but the difference is that lust can present itself in the form of love. I hate that very much! I want love, not lust, but it keeps becoming more and more difficult to find. And I am only reminded by it when I see cuts on my friends wrists because they were hurt by the one who "loved" them. I hate having to hurt them even more by telling them that that person must have never really loved them. So, over all, it was a great poem and I am happy I read it. Thank you for your comment too. There is no need of jealosy because I am no better than you, and that poem was old. So, I should be envying you. This poem really made my mind turn. Thank you for sharing!!!! I really enjoyed it!!
