Can't Be Explained

~I just felt like writing something that didn't rhyme, for a change. It was inspired by Jake and I seeing each other after school this afternoon (he was wearing the shirt I got him!), so anyway, I hope you all like it.~

Outlined against
The sun's gentle rays
A light breeze
Ruffling woven cotton
On his shirt.

His soft smile
And coarse hand
Waving at me
In his own, unique
Affectionate way.

Me smiling back
As I cross the parking lot
Gravel crunching beneath my feet
My hair windswept
Framing my face as I approach.

He towers over all
Tall and strong
But stands on his toes
Raising his chin
To get my attention; making me look his way.

An easy nudge with an elbow
As a quiet greeting
And we're laughing
Although nothing has been said
No words voiced except from the heart.

Since the other has been gone
I hadn't spoken to him
But it seems like
We never parted
Nothing was forgotten.

The summer's approach
And the season's promise
Are both exciting
And scary at the same time
Not knowing what will happen.

But it is a comfort
To know we have each other
Bound by an unlikely friendship
Kindred souls
And a sibling-like understanding.

Together we've been
Through pain and laughter
How we got this way
I'll never know
Some things can't be explained.
