See-Saw

by jess   Mar 25, 2005

We sit here, on this teeter-totter
yet again
Balancing on one end, until we cannot anymore, or we become tired and frustrated
so we move
shift
to the other end
and we sit, changed
in a new setting, unsure of our fate
when we finally adjust and even become tired of this new way of life, we don't know what to do
hopefully there is someone to sit on the other end, helping us balance, but that must not be our expectation
so we find an alternative
the middle
we have done all other ways, taking risks of falling off and persevered for another chance to stay afloat on this see-saw
one of many to come, and of many before
who to love, what to wear,
how to to live

and we have finally found our place
balanced in the middle
no wind, nothing to push us back
to an end
but we get bored and move on the the swings or the slide
because we either were lucky, and found a see-saw partner
or were fortunate, and found a medium all on our own
hopefully we didn't look to another to hold up an end, and if that person came along, we told them we would always be there to help them up too

on my see-saw today, i fell off because there was no one to help me balance, and i could not stay on it alone
i fell, and then i got back on
in the middle
maybe one day i will risk it and
move to another end, or maybe i'll get off it altogether
whether i have another as my guide, or i do it alone, i will find my balance
it was not my first teeter-totter,
and will not be my last
