Behind the fake smiles

by Nikki   Mar 29, 2005

They think they understand,
but no one could possibly understand
why she shakes when she is touched
curls up in a ball on the ground,
she's scared for her life
it's the nervous feeling
way deep down in side
that squeezes her gut
and wrenches her heart
she never knows if she's safe or not
always feeling lost
out in the cold
her depression makes her feel
sick to her stomach
so she doesn't go to school
gradually fails her classes
never knowing if she'll be alright
teachers stare at the blank
lost confused
look in her eyes
don't think they've ever seen her smile
she's been told to smile
she fakes a smirk
tears swell up in her eyes
she hides them with her hood
walks down the hall
hearing random shouts from kids
people who don't understand her
calling her a goth, a freak, a bit(h
how can they expect her
to be nice to them
when all her life
they've been jerks to her
she's learned over the years
not to trust people in her school,
in some cases not to trust people her own age,
she always feels the need to hide herself
sometimes hides her fears behind a fake smile
she's never really been happy
counseling... no that doesn't help
just makes her memory's come back
makes her feel even worse
people may never understand her
or why she always has the hidden tears in her eyes,
her heart sores miles above
but she can't get her head out of the ground
