Cowboy

by AllHailTheHeartbreaker   Mar 30, 2005

The thunder of hooves
And the wind in my hair
Loping along the dusty trail
Riding into the sunset
Him on his pinto
And me on my gray.

Sixteen, independent
And free of ropes and fences
The reins swinging on our horses' necks
His deep voice, calling Gid-up! to the cattle
Laughing and tossing our heads back
Listening to the coyote's song.

Bringing home the cows from the high pasture
Even though the ranch is still out of sight
Him hollering and whooping deep from his lungs
A melodious whinney from our horses
Me laughing as the breeze touches my face
And it's just me - me and my cowboy.

~Yet another poem dedicated to Jake... My friend, my partner in crime, my cowboy.~

Not too bad. I'm not really into the cowboy thing, but some of the lines were very good. Keep it up.

Nicely written, though I myself am not a cowgirl... I still can appreciate the meaning behind your poem and the flow.
