So Close

Tonight is dark
And no one’s here
Now I’m succumbing
To my fear

Vision’s blurred
My throat is closed
From a threat that I,
Myself, imposed

Why’d I think it?
I’d almost won
But now I’m losing,
Not having fun

I struggle hard
To run away
But, no matter what
I always stay

Tonight I was
A desperate pawn
But I came so close…
To holding on
