A Child's Pain

by Ann Stareyes   Apr 7, 2005

I never knew the pain and hurt
That children go through
When their parents divorce
And how it tears them into.

Their little hearts are broke
They feel like they have to choose
The tears that they cry
And all they feel they lose.

She's my little Granddaughter
She stays every other week-end
Not a lot of time
And she never wants it to end.

She thinks Grandma holds the answers
Of all she needs to know
I'd never say anything to hurt her
I just want her to heal and grow.

I will always respect her Mother
As long as she respects me
Right now we get along great
This is the way I want it to be.

But there are so many times
My tears do have to go
I always make sure she's not around
Then I let them flow.

If only I could take her pain away
That I still see to this day
I'd take it in a minute
To wash her tears away.

But thanks to God
She's accepting it better
I've prayed so hard
She's truly all that matters.

She's the joy of her Dad's heart
The light of our world
We love her so much
She's such a sweet and loving girl.

Very heartfelt poem Ann... I love reading your work. You always do an awesome job expressing everything. divorce is not a good thing and the children always seem to get hurt more than the adults. I just wish more people would try to work things out and think more about the percious children involved. You have a wonderful heart Ann.
Take care and God bless you and your family always!
