Paradise

by Aidyn   Apr 10, 2005

I followed the road to happiness
And what a stereotype it was!
So picture-perfect, yet so worn out,
My foot kicked up the dust...

For you I went to purgatory,
Heaven for dead souls,
And beautiful, though it was,
Couldn't find my heart among the shoals.

I left and found Atlantis
Searching far and wide,
But even underwater,
Your beauty seemed to hide.

Certainly I thought you must be
In the Hanging Gardens of Babylon,
There were many plants, but not you,
Under the sun that shone

I am not a religious person,
But still, I came to Eden.
You were not under the Apple Tree,
The apples remained uneaten.

I next went to Shangri La
I thought that maybe I'd see you,
But you escaped my imagination,
Shangri La was empty, too.

I searched every Paradise,
Down below and up above
But I didn't have to go quite far
To find my treasured love

You were right here beside me,
Here in the world mundane,
But with you by my side,
The world was not as plain.
