Gone

by Aidyn   Jun 12, 2006

The tree, it fell on all the people
Holding the young below them
One by one the sun-burnt haze
Surrounded those whose faltering gaze
Ever watched, they fell, condemned.

Gathered there to watch it topple,
Only speaking in whispers, we yelled our defense
No one wept as the foundations crumbled
Each drop of rain was recompense

Now turn around, it's burning down
Every good person, turn and stare
Verify what it is you see
Embers light your mutiny
Remember the mangled life lying there.

The city we live in
Under the earth it went
Running, a child asked if we would survive
Never once did I cry--the rain hid my intent.

It's a pseudo-glosa. I've taken four lines from "Humans" by the band, Islands:

The tree, it fell on all the people
Gathered there to watch it topple

Now turn around, it's burning down
The city we live in

A pseudo-glosa! you genius! by god, here i am kicking myself for not having thought of it first *serious fist-shaking*....you chose some fine lines to work with, too - but regardless of the poem's roots you really did take it up a notch with the story behind those images - they're going to be flashing through my head everytime i hear the song now ^_^ great job (as usual), aidyn
