Fisherman

A meek and humble fisherman,
Silently he lay,
Watching all the life go by,
Fishing by the bay.

Wishful for something more
than what he always caught.
No feeble fish for him would do,
a larger catch he sought.

Patiently he cast his line
for sixty seven years.
Waiting for the perfect catch
while sipping all those beers.

But perfect was not to be found,
where he spent his day.
He wasted sixty seven years
fishing by the bay.

He could have quit a thousand times,
but no he would go on.
Fishing for that perfect catch,
till there was no dawn.

Someday he might find that catch,
but till that time he'll say.
"I will wait here my whole life,
fishing by the bay."

    I liked the concept, it seems as if some of the stanzas are a bit redundant; such as the fourth. i like the first two lines of the second stanza much

    Okay, I love the symbolism..and I love the encouragement this poem offers. I'm in a situation like that right now and everytime I want to just give up something always stops me...I don't think I ever will give up...Excellent job!

    Absolutely well done, "Nobody", I love metaphorical poetry although I've never been too good at it myself. I was going to analyze it but bogie beat me to it. =) Well penned sweetheart, keep em coming!

    and ps... for "Two Worlds Apart"...it actually relates to society giving pity to those who are depressed, have eating disorders, or anything of that sort. But I'd much rather pity the ones who've never had a harsh experience because they'll never make it in the world that awaits them.
