The Edge Of The World

by Stef   May 2, 2005

She stands at the edge of the world, his face still in her mind
A million lives, a million lies, but she’s left them far behind.
Her hair dancing in the wind and her voice echoing alone
She’s far away but she knows she’ll soon be going home.
Just a few more moments of her constant contemplating
And she knows that she’ll be ready, no more anticipating.
Falling to her knees she prays for forgiveness for her sins
Her tears hit the muddy ground as she finds herself within.
For the first time in her lifetime she feels a surge of power
A decision made was a long process, but at the midnight hour
She knows the voice inside her will be calling her away
But the darkness will not know this; it will not make her stay.
Stumbling to her feet and walking carelessly towards the end
Her body gravitates forward, and she doesn’t have to pretend.
She blows a kiss into the night, hoping it will reach his lips
She promised him forever, and forever has now turned into this.
From her pocket she pulls his picture, holding it in her hand
She says, “I love you darling. I just wanted you to understand.”
Before the edge she stops, and with just one more glance
A brilliant future that once was hers has lost its final chance.
With her last kiss upon the wind, this beautiful young girl
Closes her tear-filled eyes as she jumps off the edge of the world.

I'm Jealous. I always come and read your work, hoping that maybe it will inspire me again to write, but...It's hard. I love it though. So many things in my mind as I read to play it out myself.
