Cigarette in the Ash tray

by Krete   May 10, 2005

My love,
serene obscenity,
go dove,
find memory.

No thoughts,
in sound scurvy,
hurting lots,
don't see the worthy.

Forgotten people,
they ache the heart away,
like certain ailments,
nothings meant that way.

Ashtrays fill up,
alcohol displayed,
pretzels eaten up,
poor people played. . .

Alcoholics anonymous,
come and go as you please,
say good bye to flames of love,
as you'll find nothing to ease.

Every story has an ending.
This ones coming to the end of its rope.
In the astray spending,
a cigarette has lost all hope.

No one will smoke it,
No one will touch.
What this dear sadness,
will deepen so much.

If you haven't noticed the widow,
sitting where her husband use to preach,
I guess maybe you'll turn to look,
but not notice much.

She lights that cigarette,
every night at nine,
goes home after crying,
and watches time slip by.

Cigarettes never smoked,
the ones lit for display,
those burning sad guys,
ones seen and put away.

Just like people,
lonely and lost.
Cigarettes are formally,
single and tossed.

I never thought of the comparison between cigarettes and the alienation/death of people. Interesting concept... and of course beautiful poem. :)

Oh, sorry to double post >_< but the reason my poems lately have not been so uplifting is because I believe God is taking me through the whole "fire" process. He's burning away the old things, and bringing new things into my life. I don't mean to make my poems seem so depressing, but I honestly do know that God is going to take care of me and I always try to include Him in my writings, but it just always doesn't turn out that way. But, just to let you know, I am trusting Him and I know He will take care of me. :)
