I remember
the first breathe of air
so fresh coming off the water
The first step onto the ground
sand going between my toes
The first misty breeze
blowing and washing my thoughts away
I remember
the way you made me feel
when the sun started to set
The way you put your arms around me
keeping me warm from the cold air
The way you kept me close
letting me know you wouldn’t let go
I remember
How you touched my hand
entwining our fingers together
How you kissed me gently
keeping me locked with you
How you splashed me
with the cold water
then laughing about it
because it was funny
I remember
the way the waves crashed against the shore
showing they were bigger
The way the sun set in the distance
with gorgeous reds and pinks and oranges
The way the birds chirped and sang
along the lakes water
I remember
the way I felt that day
the day you brought me there
How I knew you loved me
and wouldn’t let me go
I remember
that day at the beach
that night along the water
that life I used to know so well
I remember
How It felt more like home there
in your hands
in your eyes
and in your heart
I remember
the sand, the lake
the birds and the sun
But most of all
I remember
You and me
