My daddy fought in the war.

by Gem   Jun 24, 2005

I’m not sure if this counts as a poem.
You have to read it as two small boys in the school playground around 1945.

My daddy fought in the war.
~Mine did too.
My daddy killed 50 Nazis.
~Mine did too.
My daddy was right on the front lines.
~Mine was too.
My daddy got a medal.
~Mine did too.
My daddy saved his friend’s lives.
~Mine did too.
My daddy came home last week.
~Mine didn’t.
My daddy cries a lot now.
~My mummy does too.
My daddy and your daddy were friends.
~I know, I saw him at my daddy’s funeral.
