This Lord (Re-Submitted)

by JustAFoolInLove   Jun 25, 2005

I once was abused
I felt torn and forgotten
Life and death woven together
Like long strands of cotton

I saw no difference
Between these two forces
As similar to me
As same-colored horses

It was like a gunshot
When these feelings hit me
Feelings like neglect
And spiritual poverty

I wanted them gone
Those feelings I had
They cut me inside
They hurt me bad

I sat in the darkness
Just waiting for help
When a sudden blow
Caused me to yelp

This new pain was gruesome
But it made me a deal
One as hard to refuse
As a happy mean

This deal was great
It gave me a chance
To shed all this pain
Like a pair of old pants

The deal was quite simple
Or at lest was to me
I just hand over my life
And all my pain would flee

But someone stepped in
And helped me decide
To take another path
Over which I could glide

This path was easy
To follow along
And while I traveled
I broke into song

A song from my heart
That cried out to all
“Forget the dark path,
It ends in a wall

Instead walk this one
It will open your eyes
To the world around you
As large as the skies”

This song my heart sang
It filled me with joy
So I spread all the good news
With every girl and every boy

This song pours out happiness
Like a bottomless gourd
It gives gifts a-plenty
It’s the song of our Lord

Who is this Lord?
I’m betting you wonder
This Lord is the greatest
He’s stronger than thunder

This Lord is the savior
Of every person on earth
So give him your heart
And witness a birth

A birth that’s so pure
A birth granted to all
This is the birth of your soul
Something no pain can befall

This Lord is incredible
For him I applaud
This Lord is my everything
This Lord is my God

Hmm...I've been so far away from God, found myself so lost, that I sometimes wonder, or doubt, maybe, if there will ever be a day where we're actually close.

But I admire your ability to love and devote yourself to God.

The Lord is incredible, as is your poem. That's wonderful the way you turned it around...come out of the darkness and into the light. Beautiful. Hopeful. Encouraging. :)

Honestly one of my favorites. After all, I'm in it! ;) I love you so much... and God loves you even more! Don't ever lose Him, hon. And you won't lose me!

  • Zach, I'm so glad that you re-subbmitted this. I really like this one, and I think that it helps anyone who needs something to turn-to when they are having problems...
