Eighteen short years ago
angels came to earth,
To mortalise one of their own
and oversee his birth.
They gently guided him into the world
and surrounded him with love,
Then placed him in my arms and whispered
"Here's your miracle from above".
"Now your job starts in earnest"
one of them did say,
"You must now love and nurture him
and keep him from harm's way.
Give him all the love you can
teach him right from wrong,
And from this a bond will grow
that will forever stay strong.
See to all his worries
and wipe away his tears,
Share his joys and sorrows
that will come throughout his years.
Give him strength and knowledge
teach him compassion and wisdom too,
So that he may grow and flourish
to do what he must do.
Promise us with all your heart
to give him all you can,
So this tiny boy you hold
may one day be a man.
If you heed our words
and keep your promise true,
One day a man of virtue
will stand in front of you.
So tend to his every need
and build what can never be undone,
And in return we give to you
your first born....Son"
Now the day has come
to see the words they said come true,
As I watch the child, the gift, they gave to me
in the man I see in YOU..
