Is It Really Worth The Pain

The bad news fills the TV screen
The reporter bursts into tears
No one knows what to do
So they cut to a different story
But it doesn’t change a thing all

The damage has been done
It’s all been let out
The emotions…
The devotion

Things are so different now
It’s dark in the twilight
And it’s so quiet
In the dead of night

That same reporter is lost
Lost within her own world
The news was too much for her
She’s got her wires crossed
Reality drifts away – she’s left with a blur

Now a once happy family
Who saw the news report
Isn’t so happy any more
Now their lives are changed forever

The pain fills their hearts
Their eldest son in another country
His body now in a bag
But he was just “another casualty”

Things are so different now
It’s dark in the twilight
And it’s so quiet
In the dead of night

That family mourn their loss
Their heads hang low
Like all the others who’ve been killed inside
Now their feelings really begin to show

Silence from the politicians
Who sent our children away
A rising voice from the media
Who show the citizens the horror of today

Meaningless words from those in charge
Meant to comfort, meant to apologise
But they cant say sorry, so the word “regret” is repeated
But all it does is antagonise

Things are so different now
It’s dark in the twilight
And it’s so quiet
In the dead of night

You think that people would learn
That it isn’t worth the pain
Nor the blood that’s shed on another’s soil
Or the tears that ripple down our face, and drive is insane
