The Prodigal One

by EarlyBird01   Jul 11, 2005

I look at you
But you turn away
My heart burns to make you stay
I have tried so hard
To let you know
How much I care
That I’ll never let you go
But still you go on,
Determined to be right.
Do you even care
That I cry every night
Praying for your return
To God’s love and light
We have been through so much,
Will it turn out worthwhile?
Or will I cry and pray
Till my dying day
That you finally see me standing here?
I know you are still in there
Wanting to be free,
Free to cry and free to laugh
Once again with me.
How much I love you,
You may never know
But please remember that I do
I know someday that you will come around,
I pray that day comes soon.
Everyone is sick and worried,
We all want to help,
But don’t know what to do.
If you would trust,
Just the smallest bit
You would see how much we care,
But you’re so busy being right,
That we can’t possibly come near.
Remember, no matter what has happened
No matter what you’ve done
I love you just the same,
And that will never change.
Jesus loves you,
Don’t forget
He’s waiting just like me
I am sure your soul still belongs to Him,
But you still need forgiven...
Remember that free of sin,
Does not mean sin free.
Still never forget that I truly love you,
And I am waiting here today
For you to say, “You were right,
And now I’ve found my way.”
So I will wait
No matter how far you stray,
I am waiting for the prodigal one
To come home to stay.

Hey girl! it's finally going to let me comment. yay! I thought this one was excellent. I think there are so many people out there like this poem describes. I can only pray that they will "come to" eventually.
