You have to let go

by Timothy   Jul 22, 2005

1st Verse:
He went to a war he didn't believe in,
A headstrong young man that thought he was invulnerable;
But lying there in the trenches, he saw a buddy take a bullet to the head,
And suddenly he was scared and alone, and not immortal.

They found him the next morning clutching his buddy's corpse,
The Lieutenant grasped him by the arm.

Chorus:
He said, "He can't take you where he's going",
"He's got a different flight to catch";
"You still got some living to do",
"You get to start from scratch".

"Life isn't easy, in fact, it's hard to swallow",
"But you have to learn to let go...."

2nd Verse:
Years passed, and that boy grew into an old man,
He stood in the immaculate halls, feeling woozy;
At his mother's room, he saw in the doctor's eyes that time was short,
He dropped to his knees, taking a hand that was completely bony.

He felt her pulse slow, and then flicker,
And as he held tight...he felt nothing at all....

Chorus:
The Doctor said, "She can't take you where she's going",
"She's departing on another ship";
"You still got some living to do",
"You still have a hold on life's script".

"Life isn't easy, in fact, you have to take it day by day",
"But you have to learn to let go...."
