My Old Man pt.2

by Ashley Redden   Jul 24, 2005

Drinking gets the best of him
Its like he cant give it up
Every evening he makes the stop
Sometimes he don't come home
And the nights he does
Its the late house of the night
He comes in picks fights with mom
And acts as if everything is her fault
Mom perfect to me
Does everything she can
To keep a home together
Dad could less sometimes
Thats why I guess I run to mom
When I need something
I wonder if Id been different
If he'd love me more than he does now
Then I think maybe then
He wouldn't love me at all
As things start to get better
And I think things are going to change
And the life I live will be turned around
Sure enough
Here comes dad drunk
Stumbling trying to make it to the door
He acts if its everybody's fault
That hes in the shape hes in
But he knows deep down
Its himself
And that he can quit and change
The habits if he really wanted to
Of all the things he does
To Mom
To Me
To his buddys
To the family
And to complete strangers
I love him like anyone else loves their dad
And through everything
Hes still
My Old Man
