Just A Man

by FELTON PHILLIPS   Aug 7, 2005

I am just a man

Descendant from a cesspool of chemical slime
Or the creation of an Omnipotent God

I am just a man

As such, perfection eludes me
Always dangling just beyond my reach
I am husband, father, brother and son
I am a conqueror and the conquered

I am just a man

I must meet my own expectations
while meeting the expectations of others.
I am celebrated and scorned, loved and hated.
I am powerful and weak, simple and complex

I am just a man

I have many needs
I need food for sustenance and love to be sustained
I am a doer and a dreamer, a creator and a destroyer
I can go on you see
There are many things a man can be
See me for what I am

I am just a man
