Empty Promises

Do what you want with them,
but these are my promises to you.
You can throw them away or ignore them,
but I'll keep each and every one in use.

I promised I'd never hurt myself again,
but I swear to you I lied.
Because when you weren't there to ease the pain,
the knife was by my side.

I promised I'd never turn my back on you,
but she threatened my reputation.
and although I came running back to you,
I should've never gave in to that temptation.

I promised I'd keep you in my heart,
but where were you that lonely night?
Because I couldn't hear you tell me thats wrong,
when you're usually right there in my mind.

I promised I'd always be there for you
even though I've missed those last few calls
You should'nt of had to suffer alone
with the monster living within your walls.

I promised that everything would be alright,
although I knew right then and there I lied.
So maybe my promises aren't always kept,
But I swear to you I tried.
