Enemy

There it is again
Right in the back of your head
Pointing it all out
All the mistakes that you've led

Every time you hurt yourself
It's there to make you cry
And every time things are ok
It's there to make it a lie

A voice that you can't control
Seeping through your thoughts
An enemy you can't fight off
A prisoner not yet caught

Always reassuring you
That you'll never make the cut
Whispering the same old words
Right at the bottom of your guts

It's there to laugh when you're upset
There to make you feel a little worse
Right at the back of your head
Making your life harder to endorse

You'll never be good enough
It's there to point out your flaws
It'll make sure you have no confidence
Pointing out what no one ever saw

There it is again
Through the nights and the days
An enemy you can get rid off
Now you can't runaway

Hold your breath as much as you want
It'll always be there
The little voice in the back of your head
It'll follow you everywhere
