When the shadows fall

by kris   Aug 20, 2005

In a neighborhood there’s a house,
happiness fills the halls
until the shadow’s leave
and the moon falls

a girl’s father comes home
angry every night
her mother flees at 5
not wanting to be in his sight

so the little girl is left there
always all alone
she gets beaten till she can’t stand
as soon as her father comes home

hours later when her dad goes to bed
she crawls into her room
she shuts the door behind her
prays her mom will come home soon

looking up though she wonders
if all of this is ok
when all of her friends have never ever
been beaten any day

she supposes it’s for discipline
wonders what she did wrong
trying to recall what her daddy said
as he flung her against the wall

nothing comes to her mind though
as she thinks the problem is she
brings her knees up to her chest
and falls asleep in misery

awaking in the morning
she realizes what she must do
if she was gone daddy would be happy
this part she knew

she writes a letter to her family
tells them that she’s sorry
jumps out the window, kills herself
now free from all her worry
